Rare glass Tassie intaglio pendant c.1790 after an original gem engraved by Nathaniel Marchant, probably the most famous gem carver of the late c18th.
The dark glass is imitation of sardonyx.
The impression of the gem is in the James Tassie archive at Oxford University described as “Cupid caressing a Dog”.
The Tassie is in its original closed back 15 carat gold mount with Roman setting.
1.8 cms by 1.4 cms.
Slight age related wear to setting edge.
Utterly charming.
