Large scale Georgian eye-shaped pearl mourning pendant dated 1806.
High carat gold and natural pearl border(the pearls symbolising tears),milled gold setting to the glass,original pearl bale,hinged glazed locket to reverse.Would have originally enclosed woven hair now absent.
Inscribed ‘To the memory of Jn’o Robson ob 26th April 1806 aet 49’.
I have had many smaller eye-shaped mourning pins of the same period but never one as exaggerated and fine as this.
Excellent condition,one tiny pearl missing.
1.25 inches wide, 1.5 inches from top of bale to bottom of eye.
