Circular blue and white enamelled gold mourning locket pendant for Francis Burdett (1743- Feb.3rd 1794)  enclosing an initial gold B  on hair with the most beautifully engraved inscription.
Original brooch fitting and tiny loop with later split ring for ease of use as pendant.

Francis Burdett was a member of the Burdett family of Bramcote which had a lineage of baronetcy. He failed to inherit the hereditary baronetcy, as he died in 1794, before his father's death in 1797. He is the subject of two notable paintings one by Samuel Cotes and one by Joseph Wright of Derby.
