A true academic piece this bizarrely shaped large scrolled mourning ring commemorates the lives of Johanna and Margery Hodge who both died unmarried in their early 30s and early 50s respectively.Joanna Hodge born 5th March 1731 died 24th May 1765 and Margery Hodge born 24th January 1714 died 10th November 1766.The ring is elliptical and it has been recorded that such rings were deliberately made for arthritic hands but another theory is they were to be worn over gloves. The central foiled paste is supported by two smaller rock crystals to the shoulders. It is undeniably an enormous size and is only really suitable for a collector who does not wish to wear it.Size X (UK) 11.5 (US).
