Sweet little mourning ring in original condition with an unusual motto 'Je Cheris Ta Memoire' I cherish your memory.Inscribed M.Droz ob 8th May 1777 ae 37.The tiny watercolour depicts a lady mourning beside an urn,a skull and crossbones on the plinth. Ring size K(UK) 5 1/2(US).

Mary Droz(born Ashe) was daughter to Rev.St.George Ashe of Clonard,County Meath and Dublin and she married Simeon Droz(1742-1821) of the East India Company's silk enterprise in Bengal on the 1st March 1777 in Calcutta,India.One assumes due to the birthdate of her son Henry William Droz also being 1777 she died following his birth or perhaps as a consequence of,whilst in India. An early reference to the British involvement in India.
