Rare miniature example of a late 18th century Portuguese Cross set with exquisitely cut foiled garnets and central diamond inner cross.
Known as the Cross of the Order of Christ (Cruz da Ordem de Cristo), also the Cross of Christ (Cruz de Cristo) or simply the Portuguese Cross (Cruz Portuguesa), the Order was originally founded in 1319.
In 1789, Queen Maria I of Portugal secularized the order.
Some age related wear to the corners of a few of the triangular garnets but all stones original and condition overall remarkable.
