15 carat 2 colour gold Georgian locket embellished in Gothic script with a variant spelling of ‘Ricordanza’ meaning ‘Remembrance’ in Italian c.1830.
The locket opens to reveal a hinged inner glass locket intended for a lock of hair.
The gold work is reminiscent of the more commonly seen ‘regard’ and ‘dearest’ gold lockets of the period.
1 inch diameter.
Franz Liszt wrote a piano composition in 1826 entitled ‘Ricordanza’ and Ferruccio Busoni referred to this piece as "a bundle of faded love letters".
