Fine high carat gold white enamel mourning ring for William Adair of Flixton Hall, Suffolk 1783.
The band reads Wm Adair Esq Ob 17 May 1783 Ae 83.
Immaculate condition with pretty milled edge. Size 6.5.
William Adair (1700-1783)was agent to British regiments including the 23rd Regiment of Foot, or Royal Welsh Fusileers. He was a great-great-grandson of Ninian Adair of Kinhilt (d. c.1608), who had made a fortune as an Army agent, and in 1753 purchased the Flixton Hall estate in Suffolk from the heirs of the last of the Tasburgh family.At his death he bequeathed Flixton to his nephew Alexander Adair (1743-1834).
The May 1783 Norfolk Chronicle has the simple entry:
“On Saturday died at his house in Pall-Mall, London, William ADAIR, Esq., of Flixton-hall.”
